Permafrost thaw releases problems

The Arctic warms faster than the global average. This leads to thawing of permafrost soil and the release of carbon it has stored for millennia, threatening to further accelerate climate change. The frozen ground that so far has mainly yielded well-preserved megafauna remains could also unleash dangerous pathogens, such as anthrax. Michael Gross reports
