Keywords: The public social expenditure in Yemen has remarkably witnessed an increasing growth over the past two decades, especially expenditure on education, health and social care. However, the efficiency and effectiveness of social expenditure and its contribution to the economic growth were not deeply investigated and analyzed despite the increasing demands and societal pressures to increase the expenditure level on the aspects of social nature under budget constraint and limited public resources. This study aimed to analyze the developments of social expenditure and the main determinants. The study also aimed to analyze the nature of the relationship between social expenditure and economic growth in Yemen by using co-integration method and the error correction model to reach to the results that may assist fiscal policy-makers determine priorities for social expenditure and its levels. The results may also help to increase the contribution of social expenditure and its components in stimulating economic growth.
