Concept of Stem Cell Therapies and its Future

Objective: For the last 10 years, advancement has being made in stem cell study leading to the hope of developing cell replacement based therapy for diseases deficient in effective treatment by conventional ways. Methods: Organ transplantation is one of the greatest successes of modern medicine, but its scope is greatly limited by the availability of donor organs and the high risk of immunologic rejection. The possibilities of growing stem cells and organs in the laboratory and then using them to replace damaged or non-functional parts in the patient’s body is fast becoming a reality. Stem cell therapy or cell replacement therapy offers one such important prospect in future transplantation and regenerative medicine. Results and Conclusion: In this review we summarize current development of stem cell therapy research with special enthusiasm in Cancer, iPSCs, CVD, Neurological, GIT, etc. In addition, we compare current gene editing technologies and discuss their potential implications in understanding the function of specific and resident SCs in remodelling injured tissue which are required to improve SC engraftment and survival
