The Ideology of Modern ArchitectureKeywords: Knoll, Zagreb, modern architecture,ideology Abstract: Sa?etak Petar Knoll (1872-1935) was born in Vukovar. He studied art history and received his doctorate from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Vienna. He taught art history at the Technical Faculty (now the Faculty of Architecture) at the University of Zagreb. He dealt in architectural theory and research into the history of urban design in Zagreb. On the basis of an analysis of the characteristics of architectural styles as the product of social structures, Knoll identifies, affirms, and suggests an interpretation of modern architecture as the resultant of social potentates and leaders of artistic development. Dr Petar Knoll published this article on the ideology of modern architecture in Stari Zagreb 6 revue (Zagreb, 1938)
