Winter breeding of the Long-eared Owl Asio otus in ？akovo

Sa？etak On 9 February 2019, nesting of the Long-eared Owl Asio otus in ？akovo was recorded. The Long-eared Owl is a common resident breeder of ？akovo and its usual breeding season lasts from March until June. On 8 February 2019 the begging call of chicks was heard during the night hours. On 9 February 2019 a nest with circa 3-week-old chicks was found in a nearby park. Taking into consideration the age of the chicks and the fact that the incubation in this species lasts 25-30 days we can conclude that the nesting began in the period between 20 and 30 November 2018
