Abstract:

Individual’s ability of emotional face processing is of vital important for their social interactions. Compared to typical development (TD) children, children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) have emotional face processing deficits, which may contribute to difficulties in their social interaction. However, education practice shows that cartoon faces seem to be different for children with ASD. In recent years, more and more researchers discussed emotional face processing of real and cartoon faces in children with ASD. This paper reviewed the relevant studies at home and abroad and found that: (1) many studies showed that children with ASD had emotional face processing deficits of real faces; (2) they showed different mechanisms of processing cartoon faces. What’s more, researches of emotional face processing of real and cartoon faces in children with ASD were still inadequate, which need to be improved.
