The 2017 Arizona Biosecurity Workshop: An Open Dialogue About BiosecurityKeywords: biosecurity,cyberbiosecurity,dual-use research of concern,gene drives,genome editing,do-it-yourself (DIY) biology Abstract: The Arizona Biosafety Alliance, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Arizona State University hosted a workshop in December 2017 to confer and deliberate on interdisciplinary considerations regarding biosecurity. The primary focus of the event was to address a perceived gap in the knowledge between the experts discussing technical and policy implications of biosecurity, professionals in the trenches managing biosecurity risks, and the public perceptions of the risks and benefits of emergent biotechnology. This article summarizes the event, identifies common themes among presenters, highlights key outcomes, and offers recommendations for future considerations
