Mukti Barton’s 2000 paper, ‘The Skin of Miriam Became as White as Snow: The Bible, Western Feminism and Colour Politics’, reflected on interpretations of the story of Miriam and her sister-in-law Zipporah, that have focused mainly on Miriam becoming white, as indicative of the effect of colour politics on biblical hermeneutics.
