Margaret C. Simms: Economist, Educator, Administrator, Organizer, and Mentor

In the history of African American women economists, no name stands above that of Dr. Margaret C. Simms. When she earned the PhD in economics in 1974, she joined a very small cadre of African American women who had the credential that would be the cornerstone of her career as a scholar, an educator, and a leader. Simms began her professional career in the academy and went on to serve in highly respected intellectual think tanks. Throughout her career, she was an active member of professional economic associations, produced ground breaking scholarly works, and provided service and leadership to the people and organizations around her
