Palliation of chronic obstructive pulmonary diseaseAbstract: The objective of this review is to describe the physical and psychosocial symptoms associated with advanced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and to be able to identify and overcome barriers to providing needed palliative care to these patients and their families. Treatment options, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological for disease process as well as symptoms associated with advanced COPD will be discussed. We will identify psychosocial, spiritual and caregiver issues that are commonly seen in these patients. In addition, factors associated with poor prognosis will be identified. We will begin with a clinical case that highlights the topic of this review
