Current techniques of endoscopic decompression in spine surgery

Minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) has become a mainstream concept in spine medicine. Back or neck pain with radiculopathy is one of the common reasons for patients to opt for extensive treatment, and conventional surgical procedures for spinal disc disease or stenosis include open decompression with or without fusion surgery. However, perioperative complications and prolonged recovery time after surgery have emphasized the need of MISS (1,2). The goal is to minimize normal tissue trauma during the surgical approach while providing the same therapeutic effect.
