Current provider screening practices to evaluate for mental health concerns in caregivers of patients with primary immunodeficiencies

Research on chronic diseases has shown that family members of patients are at increased risk for depression and anxiety and would likely benefit from routine screening for mental health issues; however, little research has been conducted to specifically investigate whether caregivers of patients with primary immunodeficiencies are routinely screened. The goal of this study was to assess how frequently providers are currently screening for mental health concerns among caregivers of patients with primary immunodeficiencies and to identify providers’ perceived barriers to caregiver screening.
