Changes in production of total immunoglobulin E but not food allergen-specific IgE or IgG4 in at-risk children after exposure to aluminum adjuvant.

Aluminum hydroxide induces a robust immunologic response including induction of Th2 immune deviation and production of IgE. Its impact on IgE and IgG4 (a marker of Th2 immunity) is unknown in humans. We hypothesized that aluminum adjuvants would alter the production of both IgE and IgG4 in at-risk children.
