Severe asthma is associated with metabolic syndrome in Brazilian adolescents

Asthma is a serious health problem in developing countries, with increasing prevalence over the last decades, especially among children and adolescents.1 In Brazil, according to the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood, the prevalence of active asthma in children aged 6 to 7？years and adolescents aged 13 to 14？years was, respectively, 24.3% and 19%, one of the highest among Latin American countries.2
