Hypnotic Drugs: Pharmacological and Therapeutic IssuesDOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15226/2374-6866/5/1/00173 Abstract: The paper proceeds to discuss drugs commonly used in the treatment of sleep disorders, benzodiazepines and newer non-benzodiazepines compounds. The pharmacokinetic properties of these compounds are briefly described, as are effects of age. Other hypnotics as suvorexant and melatonin are included in this review which concludes with suggestions for the proper identification of patients requiring chemical treatment for sleep disorders and highlights methodologies for choosing the most beneficial pharmacological tools.The following article identifies the appropriate strategies for the prescription of hypnotic drugs.
