ERNEST CRAIGE, MDAbstract: Dr. Ernest Craige, a distinguished cardiologist and one of the founders of the Department of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), died on January 24, 2008, at North Carolina Memorial Hospital, an institution that he had helped establish in 1952. Ernie was noted by all as a southern gentleman in the best sense of the phrase. He had enormous integrity, an acute sense of service and community, and was known for treating others uniformly with kindness and respect. Although quiet by nature, he had a wry sense of humor as evidenced by his cartoons which he used frequently in his lectures and publications
