Detection of Candida Endophthalmitis in a Newborn Using Handheld Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography

In a newborn with candidemia, two retinal lesions were seen without external inflammatory signs or reaction in the anterior chamber or vitreous. However, handheld spectral domain-optical coherence tomography (HH SD-OCT) images show that one of the retinal lesions had a “firework display” projecting to the vitreous that was not identified in indirect ophthalmoscopy.
