Letter from the Editor-in-ChiefDOI: 10.1177/192536211800800101 Abstract: As we begin our eighth year of publication, the theme of the first issue of 2018 is “Environmental Deaths” and the Special Guest Editor is Dr. James Caruso. Compared to centuries past, we certainly have taken more control over our environment than ever before. The human race continues to adapt to our environment, improve our living conditions, and decrease mortality due to environmental causes. However, despite our best efforts, we are still vulnerable to the dangers of our environment. As a subset of accidental deaths, environmental deaths run a broad spectrum. Each type of environmental death has its own hallmarks, manifestations, findings, and critical issues necessary to conduct a thorough death investigation
