GENDER BASED VIOLENCE IN PAKISTANI SCHOOLS: INVESTIGATING ATTITUDE OF STUDENTS TOWARDS FAMILY ROLE IN VIOLENCE

Abstract:

The present study examined the attitudes of students in Pakistani schools towards family role in school violence. For this purpose, a case study of selected districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa” was carried out in districts Peshawar and Mardan with the sole purpose of eliciting the students’ perception on violence. To understand gender based respondent’s perceptions the variable of students attitude towards family role in school violence was restricted to three relevant sub-variables i.e. Students Consult Family in Matters of School Violence, Family Shows Interest in Issues of School Violence, and Friends/Peers are More Important than Family for Consultation in School Violence. Results of the study showed that family interest in school violence was non-significant with physical, psychological, sexual and economic violence. The role of peers/friends had a non-significant relationship with physical, sexual and economic violence
