Abstract:

The intraocular pressure effects of changes in body posture were examined. A total of 150 eyes of 67 males, 83 females patients planned for intravitreal injection were evaluated. Intraocular pressures were measured with contact hand tonometry when the patients were standing, sitting and lying in the supine position. Patients who had glaucoma, who had an eye surgery, who had a history of ocular drug use and wereunable to provide the relevant body posture were excluded from the study. The mean age of the patients was 66.03 ± 8.36 years. Intraocular pressures were 17.48 ± 3.38 mmHg in standing, 17.24 ± 3.47 mmHg in sitting, 19.86±4.55 mmHg in supine position. There was no statistically difference between standing and sitting intraocular pressure (p = 0,103). Supine values were significantly higher than both the standing value and the sitting score (p values 0,001). The intraocular pressures were significantly higher in the supine position than in the standing position and the sitting position.
