Abstract:

This study was conducted in order to determine the level of conflict and violence awareness of nurses working at a university hospital. In this descriptive study, the statistical universe was composed of 820 nurses who work at the university hospital. The selection of sample wasn’t made, it was planned to reach all of the universe. A total of 820 nurses working at university hospital were targeted, but 376 nurses who accepted to participate in the study were included. The participation rate of the survey is 45.9%. The data were collected by using Personal Information Form, Awareness Concerning Conflict and Violence Scale. Statistical analysis was performed using percentage, frequency analysis, Mann Whitney U test and Kruskal Wallis test. The average age of nurses was 30.6±8.5, 90.4% of nurses were female, 51,1% were married, 55.9%graduated from bachelor degree, 30.5%worked at intensive care unit, 83.2%were service nurse, 45.8% of nursesworked for 1-5 year, 64.9 % worked in shifts, 92.3% didn’t experience physical violence,63.8%experienced psychological violence. Nurses’ means of ACCV was 95.7±18.0 Statistically significant difference was determined among the means of Awareness Concerning Conflict and Violence Scaleaccording to age group, marital status, education level, working unit, status, working time (p<0.05). According to this study results, nursesworking atuniversity hospital had high level of awareness concerningconflict and violence.Besides,these awareness of nurses were effected by age, marital status, education level, working unit, status and time.
