Abstract:

The Known World, an excellent book describing the history of black American people, is the rep-resentative work of African American writer—Edward P. Jones, which has achieved American highest literature award “Pulitzer Prize for fiction”. This novel showed a macro American slave-holding society based on lots of micro characters. It has indeed given readers a shock with its several story lines moving forward together. This essay started with some certain writing skills of stream of consciousness, such as multiple points of view, internal monologue, dream illusion and time-and-space montage, in order to express black people’s strong desire of seeking for identity as well as deepen the theme of the novel.
