|
Abstract:
In order to understand the biological variation among different geographical populations of the small brown planthopper (SBPH, Laodelphax striatellus), we collected five SBPH populations from Shenyang, Jining, Zhengzhou, Nanjing and Jiaxing, respectively. Morphological phenotype, developmental duration, survival rate, adult longevity and reproductive capacity were investigated for all five populations. At 25 ℃, the sex ratio (female/male) increased with decreasing latitude. The average body length of individuals from Shenyang and Jining was longer than that from the other regions. The percentage of long-wing females varied significantly among the five populations. The Nanjing population had the highest nymph survival rate, followed by Jiaxing, Shenyang, Jining, and Zhengzhou populations. The developmental threshold temperature of the SBPH was slightly different from 11 ℃ to 12 ℃ among different populations. However, longer nymph duration and higher effective accumulated temperature were observed in both Shenyang and Jining populations. Along with the temperature increase, the adult longevity of all five populations became shorter, but differentiated at different temperatures. There was a significant difference in effective fecundity among different populations, in a low-to-high order: Jiaxing, Zhengzhou, Jining, Shenyang, Nanjing.
