Abstract:
Abstract: The current study further examined the effect of ego depletion on the middle school students’ physical activity after detecting the effect of ego depletion on the intention of physical activity. In experiment 1, 58 participants (31 males and 27 females, 13.28 ± 0.45 yrs) completed the White Bear Task and then their intention of physical activity was measured. Results showed that the intention of physical activity volume of ego depletion group was significantly different from that of control group (t = -3.34, df = 56, P < 0.05, d = 0.89), the strength of intention of the ego depletion group was significantly lower than that of control group (F(1, 56)= 5.85, P < 0.05, Partial η2 = 0.10), the time of intention of the depletion group was significantly shorter than that of control group (F(1, 56) = 6.96, P < 0.05, Partial η2 = 0.11), and there was no difference in the frequency of intention between the two groups (F(1, 56) = 0.73, P > 0.05, Partial η2 = 0.01). In experiment 2, 56 participants (26 males and 30 females, 13.41±0.50 yrs) finished the math tests and their physical activity was measured. Results showed that the difference of physical activity was significant between the two groups (t = -2.27, df = 54, P < 0.01, d = 0.74), the strength of physical activity of the depletion group was significantly lower than that of the control group (F(1, 54) = 5.36, P < 0.05,Partial η2 = 0.09), the time of intention of the depletion group was significantly lower than the control group (F(1, 54)= 4.27,P <0.05,Partial η2 = 0.07). Conclusion: Ego depletion affects the intention of middle school students’ physical activity, showing lower intention of physical activity volume, strength and time. Ego depletion affects the middle school students’ physical activity, showing less volume, lower strength and shorter time of physical activity
