|
Abstract:
Abstract: The purpose of this review was to introduce the research hotspots of the ACSM’s 64th Annual Meeting and the 8th World Conference on Exercise Is Medicine and the World Conference of Basic Science of Exercise and the Brain, identify current status of sports sociology research and explore future directions in this field basing on the studies presented in the highlighted lectures and symposia during the meeting. The ACSM’s 64th Annual Meeting demonstrated that the topics in sports sociology are characterized by being timely, region and population specific, and integrating research techniques and ideas from different disciplines. Among the topics, gender and sport, sport and health, and physical activity promotion are the main focuses. The president lecture on the impact of exercise during pregnancy illustrated the negative outcomes caused by obesity for both mothers and fetuses, and pointed out the importance on the related research in this field. The highlighted symposium on human behavior provided attendees with the most recent evidence and research directions on sleep, sedentary behavior and physical activity and health in the context of the 24?hour cycle, including measurement and well-developed activity model of the 24-hour cycle for developing exercise prescription and public policy. There is strong emerging evidence that physical inactivity has become one of the most important public health problems of the 21st century. In response to this issue, ACSM has been collaborating with government organizations and research institutes like CDC and NIH to publish several guidelines, showing that ACSM values physical activity improvement and health promotion, and this information also provides reference for physical activity promotion and public health in China
