中西思维差异在汉英意合形合医学术语中的映射
The reflection of different modes of thought in Chinese andEnglish medical terms by parataxis and hypotaxis

汉英两种语言之间有一项重要的区别特征，就是汉语重意合，英语重形合。在中国传统语言哲学观中形成的重整体思维、重直观经验、重形象思维是汉语意合趋向的能动的理性根源；英语形合特征则是西方民族重个体分析、重理性论证、重形式完备等思维方式对其语言发展走向做出的必然选择。这些思维方式的差异在各自医学术语中也得到了充分反映。本文以汉英医学术语的意合形合特征对比为视角，反观中西思维方式的差异，以期在词语的层面对意合形合对比研究做一种尝试和补充。
In contrastive studies between English and Chinese, one of the most important aspects is the hypotaxisand parataxis. This paper makes the point that parataxis can be accounted for by the concept of viewing things in theirentirety, which is the cornerstone of Chinese classical philosophy. By the same argument, hypotaxis is the natural outcomeof the philosophical traditions of Western people. Chinese language is featured as a figurative and analytic language,while English as a sound and synthetic language, mainly owing to their different modes of thought. Based on the abovediscussions, the author presents the difference between parataxis and hypotaxis in Chinese and English medical terms as anexample to reflect the different modes of thought
