Heptacodium miconioides, an endemic species in China, is recognized as grade Ⅱ in the list of national key conservation rare and endangered plants. Based on the data collected from sample plots, the population regeneration features in Dapanshan National Natural Reserve of Zhejiang Province were analyzed. The results showed that most of the stem base possessed the sprouting. The sprouting contributed great to diameter classes structure in popunation. The significant positive correlation was presented between the number of sprouting and diameter of root. The heights of most individuals of H. miconioides were between 4 and 6 m, which were oppressed at height competitiveness. However, H. miconioides increased its niche and competitive power by increasing the canopy. The poor sexual reproduction ability and the severe habitat led sprouting regeneration to be the main way of sustaining population survival. Finally, protection measures were proposed
