riskfactorsforsevereretinopathyofprematurityinprematureinfants:asingle-centerstudyKeywords: keywords:retinopathy,prematurity,incidence,riskfactors Abstract: abstract:objectivetoevaluatetheincidenceandriskfactorsforsevereretinopathyofprematurity(rop)inpreterminfants.methodsbetweenmay,2008andmay,2011,atotalof957preterminfantsat4-6weeksofchronologicalageor32weeksofpostmenstrualageunderwentretinalevaluationbyretcamiiinourcenter,andthedataofinfantswithropinanystagewereanalyzed.resultsamongthe957preterminfants,wefound86(8.99%)infantstohaveropindifferentstages,including60(6.27%)withmildropand26(2.72%)withsevererop.thebirthweightandgestationalageoftheinfantswithsevereropaveraged1420.40±328.64gand29.88±1.67weeks,ascomparedto1593.28±339.30gand31.78±2.53weeksinthosewithmildrop,respectively,showingasignificantdifferencebetweenthetwogroups(p<0.005).thesignificantvariablesforsevereropincludedgestationalage(p=0.001),birthweight(p=0.035),1minapgarscore(p=0.001),5minapgarscore(p=0.005),numberofbloodtransfusions(p=0.032),andthepresenceofapnea(p=0.04)andretinalhemorrhage(p=0.000).gestationalageandretinalhemorrhageweretheindependentriskfactorsforsevererop(or=0.353,95%ci0.163-0.763,p=0.008;or=26.133,95%ci3.042-224.501,p=0.035).conclusionsevereroptendstohaveadecreasingincidenceandoccursmoreofteninmorematurepreterminfants.theaffectedinfantshavethecharacteristicsofthefirstepidemics.gestationalageandretinalhemorrhageareindependentpredictivefactorsforsevererop.
