Abstract:

theinfluenceofthealkaloidextractofkopsiasingapurensisonthecorrosionbehaviorofmildsteel(ms)in1mol·l-1hcland1mol·l-1h2so4wasstudiedusingelectrochemicaltechniques,viz.,potentiodynamicpolarizationandacimpedance.theexperimentalresultsclearlyshowthattheplantextracteffectivelyinhibitscorrosioninbothacidmediaandtheinhibitionefficiencyobtainedfromtheelectrochemicaltechniquesisingoodagreement.furthermore,thepolarizationtechniqueindicatesthattheextractactsasananodictypeinhibitorinhclandasamixedtypeinh2so4.scanningelectronmicroscopy(sem)wascarriedouttoexaminethesurfacemorphologicalchangesofmetalspecimensinboththeinhibitedanduninhibitedsolutions.semimagesshowtheformationofanadsorbedlayeroverthemetalsurfacebytheinhibitormolecule.thepresenceofalkaloidalconstituentsintheplantextractwasconfirmedbyfouriertransforminfrared(ftir)spectroscopyandchemicalanalysis.
