Abstract:

?pdauir/c-sb2o5·sno2electrocatalystswithpd:au:irmolarratiosof90:5:5,70:20:10and50:45:5werepreparedbyborohydridereductionmethod.theseelectrocatalystswerecharacterizedbyedx,x-raydiffraction,transmissionelectronmicroscopyandthecatalyticactivitytowardformicacidelectro-oxidationinacidmediuminvestigatedbycyclicvoltammetry(cv),chroamperometry(ca)andtestsondirectformicacidfuelcell(dfafc)at100℃.x-raydiffractogramsofpdauir/c-sb2o5·sno2electrocatalystsshowedthepresenceofpdfccphase,pd-aufccalloys,carbonandatophases,whileirphaseswerenotobserved.temmicrographsandhistogramsindicatedthatthenanoparticleswerenotwelldispersedonthesupportandsomeagglomerates.thecyclicvoltammetryandchroamperometrystudiesshowedthatpdauir/c-sb2o5·sno2(50:45:5)hadsuperiorperformancetowardformicacidelectro-oxidationat25℃comparedtopdauir/c-sb2o5·sno2(70:20:10),pdauir/c-sb2o5·sno2(90:5:5)andpd/c-sb2o5·sno2electrocatalysts.theexperimentsinasingledfafcalsoshowedthatallpdauir/c-sb2o5·sno2electrocatalystsexhibitedhigherperformanceforformicacidoxidationincomparisonwithpd/c-sb2o5·sno2electrocatalysts,howeverpdauir/c-sb2o5·sno2(90:5:5)hadsuperiorperformance.theseresultsindicatedthattheadditionofauandirtopdfavortheelectro-oxidationofformicacid,whichcouldbeattributedtothebifunctionalmechanism(thepresenceofato,auandiroxidesspecies)associatedtotheelectroniceffect(pd-aufccalloys).
