Abstract:

?thisworkstudiestheamountofgaseousandparticleemissionsanddepositsonheatexchangersurfacesinaboilerfiredwithcommerciallyavailablepelletsandwithpelletsprimedwithmagnesiumoxideandmagnesiumhydroxide.thecombustionexperimentswereperformedonaresidentialboilerof20kw.substratesplacedintheheatexchangerwasanalysedwithsem-edx-mappingtoevaluatethechemicalcompositionofthedeposits.theresultsshowthatparticleemissions(pm2.5)usingtheadditivesincreasedbyabout50%andthemassofthedepositsinthefluegasheatexchanger(excludinglooseflyash)increasedbyabout25%comparedtothecombustionofpelletswithoutadditives.theamountofadditiveswasfoundtobeeighttimeshigherthantheamountofthemainalkalimetalspotassium(k)andsodium(na)whichleadstotheassumptionthattheadditiveswereoverdosedandthereforecausedtheproblemsreported.thesemanalysisofthesubstratesplacedinthefluegasheatexchangerindicatethatthedepositsofsodium(na),potassium(k),chlorine(cl)andsulphur(s)decreaseusingtheadditives.ifthiswasduetotheexpectedchemicalreactionsorduetothelooseflyashcoveringthesubstratesafterthetest,couldnotbedeterminedinthisstudy.
