TheInthanonZoneofNorthernThailand,origi-nallyproposedbyBarrandMacdonald(1991),ischaracterizedbytheoccurrenceofPaleo-Tethyanpe-lagicsedimentsincludingCarboniferous–Permianseamount-typecarbonateassociatedwithoceanicba-salticrocksandMiddleDevonian–MiddleTriassicradiolarianchert(Ueno,1999;UenoandHisada,2001;UenoandCharoentitirat,2011).Thesepelagicrockshavebeenmainlystudiedfromtheviewpointofbio-stratigraphytoclarifythedurationoftheirdeposition.ThesestudiesconcludedthePaleo-TethystobeavastoceanbasinonceexistedbetweentheIndochinaandSibumasucontinentalblocksduringDevo-nian–Triassictimes.
