Abstract:

"8407"isadiseaseresistantgermplasmofChinesecabbagewhichishighlyresis-tanttoturnipmosaicvirus(TuMV),selectedbytheVegetableInstitute,HebeiAcademyofAgri-culturalandForestrySciences.In1985and1989,itwasapprovedandacceptedasoneofthena-tionaldiseaseresistantgermplasmofChinesecabbagebytheNationalExpertGroup.Theidentifi-cationin1989showedthat"8407"washighlyresistantorimmuneto19TuMVstrainsfrom10provinces/citiesacrossthecountry.Therefore,itwasregardedasthebestgermplasmbothverti-callyandhorizontallyresistanttoTuMVofChinesecabbage.ThisgermplasmwasselectedfromChangPaodan(InnerMongolia)ofQingmayesystemafter6generationsofsuccessiveselfcross.Usingthediseaseresistantgermplasmof"8407",wedevelopednewmulti-resistantvarietiesof"8361"and"8612"in1983and1986respectively,whichwashighlyresistanttoTuMVanddownymildewandsoftrot.Thesevarietieshavebeenextendedtoanareasofover20000ha.
