Abstract:

Thispapersummarizestheauthors’experimentalstudyonthecharacterizationsystemofcompositebehaviortowithstandimpact.Thecontentincludes(1)Thedentdepthisthebestparameterdescribingtheimpactdamagestate.(2)Thereexiststhekneepointphenomenonfordamageresistancebehavior(i.e.therelationshipbetweenimpactenergyorcontactforceanddentdepth)anddamagetolerancebehavior(i.e.therelationshipbetweendentdepthandcompressivefailurestrainorstress)ofcompositelaminates.(3)Thephysicalmeaningofthekneepointphenomenonisthatthefailuremechanismschangeofdamagedcompositestofiberbreakageinthefirstfrontpliesfrommatrixcrackanddelamination.Somesuggestionsonthecharacterizationsystemofcompositebehaviortowithstandimpactwereproposed.
