Abstract:

Theresearchonutilizinglithium-ionbatterieswithLiNi0.8Co0.2O2-basedcathodeforhybridelectricvehiclesisintensivelyunderwayinseveralnationallaboratoriesofUSDepartmentofEnergy.TheimpedanceofLiNi0.8Co0.2O2/graphitelithium-ioncellsisobservedtoexperienceasubstantialriseduringacceleratedcalendarlifestorage,duemainlytothesignificantincreaseoftheinterfacialresistanceonthecathodeside.BymeansofelectrochemicalmeasurementsandACimpedancespectroscopy,itisfoundthatdopingtheLiNi0.8Co0.2O2cathodewithsmallamountofAl,TiandMgcaneffectivelysuppressthisimpedancerise.PossiblemitigationofoxidizingabilityofNi4+duetoAl,TiandMgdopingisproposedtoachievethisimpedancestabilization.
