Fengyunsatellites:achievementsandfuture, PP. 468-473 Keywords: FYsatellite,Polar-orbitingsatellite,Geostationarysatellite,Remotesense,Spaceweather Abstract: Chinesemeteorologicalsatellite,Fengyun(FY)Satellite,hasapolar-orbitingseriesandageostationaryseries.Uptonow,5polar-orbiting(FY-1A/B/C/DandFY-3A)and5geostationary(FY-2A/B/C/D/E)satelliteswerelaunched.FYdatahasbeenbeingintensivelyappliednotonlytometeorologicalmonitoringandpredictionbutalsotomanyotherfieldsregardingecology,environment,disaster,spaceweatherandsoand.TheFYdatasharingsystem,FengyunCast,isnowoneofthethreecomponentsofglobalmeteorologicalsatelliteinformationdisseminationsystem,GEONETCast.Thefirstsatelliteofthenewgenerationpolar-orbitingseries,FY-3A,waslaunchedon27May,2008,demonstratingtheFYpolar-orbitingsatelliteanditsapplicationcompletedagreatleaptorealizethree-dimensionalobservationsandquantitativeapplication.Thefirstofthenextgenerationgeostationaryseries(FY-4)isplannedtolaunchin2014.
