Abstract:

?The-ONNO-tetradentateSchiffbaseligandN,N'-bis(2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde)benzene-1,2-diamine(HMBBD)hasbeensynthesized.Theligandwasattachedtocopper(Cu-HMBBD)inmethanolunderN2atmospheretogiveamononuclearcomplex.Thereactivityofthiscomplexinthering-openingpolymerization(ROP)oflactidehasbeenstudied.Thecomplexhasasquareplannergeometry,asdeterminedbyX-raydiffractionstudies.Thecoppercomplexishighlyactivetowardsthering-openingpolymerizationoflactide,andtherateofpolymerizationisheavilydependentontheinitiatorused.Thecoppercomplexallowscontrolledring-openingpolymerization,asshownbythelinearrelationshipbetweenthepercentageconversionandthenumberaveragemolecularweight.Basedontheliterature,amechanismfortheROPoflactidehasbeenproposed.
