Abstract:

?Br?nstedacidcatalystshavebeenusedinanumberoforganictransformations.Toovercomelimitations,suchastoxicity,volatility,highpriceandhazardousnatureoftheconventionalmethods,thecatalystsareadsorbedonsilicageltogivethebenefitsandadvantagesofreadyavailability,simplework-upprocedure,longcatalyticlife,environment-friendliness,goodtoexcellentyieldsandrecyclability.Theusesofsuchcatalystshavegainedimportanceworldwide.Thisarticledescribessomeoftheimportantsilicatedcatalysts,namely,heteropolyacids,polyphosphoricacid,perchloricacid,fluoroboricacid,andsilicatedsulphuricacid.Thesecatalystshavebeenusedinanumberoforganicreactionstoyieldcompoundsthatareimportantinthechemicalandpharmaceuticalindustries.Wesummarizethebeneficialeffectsofthesecatalystsandthereportsthathavebeenpublishedontheminthepastseveralyears.Inthepresentreview,thedescriptionofthecatalystsareintroducedfollowedbyarecentresearchhistory,andacomparisonbetweenthesilicasupportedcatalystsandother(polymer)supportedcatalysts.Thearticleendsupgivingtheadvantagesofthesecatalyticsystemsovertheconventionalcatalyst.
