Abstract:

?Anovel,cost-effective,andsimpleelectrocatalystbasedonaPt-modifiedglassycarbonelectrode(GCE),usingcetyltrimethylammoniumbromide(CTAB)asacationicsurfactant,isreported.AmphiphilicCTABmoleculeswereadsorbedonGCEbyimmersioninaCTABsolution.Thepositivelychargedhydrophiliclayer,whichconsistedofsmallaggregatesofaveragesizelessthan100nm,wasusedforaccumulationandcomplexationof[PtCl6]2-anionsbyimmersingtheelectrodeinK2PtCl6solution.Themodifiedelectrodewascharacterizedusingscanningelectronmicroscopy,energy-dispersiveX-rayspectroscopy,impedancespectroscopy,andelectrochemicalmethods.TheelectrocatalyticactivityofthePtparticlesinthehydrogenevolutionreaction(HER)wasinvestigated.TheresultsshowthattheCTABsurfactantenhancestheelectrocatalyticactivityofthePtparticlesintheHERinacidicsolution.
