Abstract:

?Thismini-reviewsummarizessomenovelaspectsofreactionsconductedinaqueous/organicemulsionsstabilizedbycarbonnanohybridsfunctionalizedwithcatalyticspecies.Carbonnanohybridsrepresentafamilyofsolidcatalyststhatnotonlycanstabilizewater-oilemulsionsinthesamefashionasPickeringemulsions,butalsocatalyzereactionsattheliquid/liquidinterface.Severalexamplesarediscussedinthismini-review.Theyinclude(a)aldolcondensation-hydrodeoxygenationtandemreactionscatalyzedbybasic(MgO)andmetal(Pd)catalysts,respectively;(b)Fischer-Tropschsynthesiscatalyzedbycarbon-nanotube-supportedRu;and(c)emulsionpolymerizationofstyrenefortheproductionofconductivepolymercomposites.Conductingthesereactionsinemulsiongeneratesimportantadvantages,suchasincreasedliquid/liquidinterfacialareathatconsequentlymeansfastermasstransferratesofmoleculesbetweenthetwophases,effectiveseparationofproductsfromthereactionmixturebydifferencesinthewater-oilsolubility,andsignificantchangesinproductselectivitythatcanbeadjustedbymodifyingtheemulsioncharacteristics.
