Abstract:

?TheactivityandtheselectivityofRuandPtbasedcarboncatalystsintheselectiveoxidationoflong-chainaliphaticalcohols(C8,C10,C12)havebeeninvestigated.Ru/ACandPt/ACalwaysshowedgoodinitialactivity,howeverdeactivationphenomenarapidlydepressedthecatalyticperformanceofthecatalysts.ThesephenomenacanbelimitedbymodificationofRu/ACandPt/ACwithAuimprovingthedurabilityofthecatalyst.Ru/ACandAuRu/ACshowedgoodselectivitytothecorrespondingaldehyde(>95%)makingthesecatalystspromisingforfragrancesmanufacturing.TheadvantageinusingAumodifiedcatalystliesontheeasierregenerationprocedurecomparedtotheonenecessaryforRu/AC.Pt/ACandAuPt/ACshowedalowerselectivitytoaldehydepromotingtheformationoftheacidandtheesterformationrespectively.TheadditionofwaterinthesolventsystemspeedsupthereactionratebutdrasticallydecreasedtheselectivitytoaldehydeespeciallyinthecaseofPtbasedcatalysts.
