Abstract:
?Sincethediscoveryofcarbonnanotubes(CNT),thismaterialhasbeenrecognizedasanattractivecatalystsupport.CNTmustbefunctionalizedbeforeuseasacatalystsupportandtypicallythisinvolvesoxidation.However,thefunctionalgroupdistributionontheCNTisverycomplexmixtureofgroupsandvarieswithoxidationagentused.Hereasimpleacid-basetitrationisintroducedtocharacterizetheoxygenfunctionalizedCNT.Bycomparingcharacterizationwithnear-edgeX-rayabsorptionfinestructure(NEXAFS)andX-rayphotoelectronspectroscopy(XPS)forbothattheCandOK-edges,itcanbedemonstratedthatpotentiometricprotontitrationcanbeafastandquantitativeanalysisforBr?nstedacidfunctionalgroupsonCNT.
