Abstract:
?Rareearthoxide-treatedfullereneandtitaniacomposites(Y-fullerene/TiO2)werepreparedbythesol-gelmethod.Theproductshadinterestingsurfacecompositions.X-raydiffractionpatternsofthecompositesshowedthattheY-fullerene/TiO2compositescontainedasingleandclearanatasephase.Thesurfacepropertieswereobservedbyscanningelectronmicroscopy,whichgaveacharacterizationofthetextureontheY-fullerene/TiO2compositesandshowedahomogenousdistributionoftitaniumparticles.Theenergy-dispersiveX-rayspectrashowedthepresenceofCandTiwithstrongYpeaks.ThecompositeobtainedwasalsocharacterizedwithtransmissionelectronmicroscopyandUV-Visspectroscopy.ThephotocatalyticresultsshowedthattheY-fullerene/TiO2compositeshadexcellentactivityforthedegradationofmethyleneblueundervisiblelightirradiation.ThiswasattributedtoboththeeffectsonthephotocatalysisofthesupportedTiO2bychargetransferbythefullerene,andtheintroductionofyttriumtoenhancephoto-generatedelectrontransfer.
