Abstract:

?ThedirectdecompositionofN2Owasinvestigatedoveraseriesofmagnesiumcobaltitecatalysts,MgxCo1-xCo2O4(0.0≤x≤1.0),whichwerepreparedbythethermaldecompositionofstoichiometricamountsofmagnesiumhydroxideandcobaltacetate.Thethermalgenesisofthedifferentcatalystsfromtheirprecursorswasexploredusingthermogravimetricanalysis,differentialthermalanalysis,andX-raydiffraction.TextureanalysiswascarriedoutusingN2adsorptionat–196°C.Wefoundthatallthecatalyststhatwerecalcinedat500°Chaveaspinelstructure.N2Odecompositionactivitywasfoundtoincreasewithanincreaseinthespinelstructure’smagnesiumcontent.Theinfluenceofalkalicationpromoters(Li,Na,K,andCs)ontheactivityofthemostactivecatalystintheMgxCo1-xCo2O4series,i.e.MgCo2O4,wasalsoinvestigated.Thesequenceofthepromotionaleffectwasfoundtobe:un-promoted0.05,basedonN2adsorptionandscanningelectronmicroscopyresults.
