Abstract:

?Indiumincorporatedsilicasampleswithdifferentindiumcontentsweresynthesizedusingatemplatefreesol-gelmethod.Thesilicausedwasextractedfromricehusk(RH)andtheresultingcatalystwaslabeledasRH-xIn(x=5%,10%,15%,and20%).FromtheN2adsorptionanalysisthepresenceoftypeIVisotherminRH-blankandRH-xInindicatedthemesoporousnatureofthecatalysts.IntheXRDpattern,abroadbandatca.2θ=25°wasobservedforallthecatalystswhichshowedthemtobeamorphous.TEMmicrographsrevealedthatthematerialiscomposedofnanoparticles.Friedel-CraftbenzoylationoftoluenewascarriedoutusingtheRH-xIncatalyst.Theoptimumconditionsforthebenzoylationoftolueneweredeterminedandat373K,100%conversionand89%selectivityforthepara-product(i.e.4-methylbenzonphenone)wereobtained.
