thepull-outtests,directsheartestsandsimplesheartestsareoftenusedtoinvestigatetheinterfacebehaviorsoflandfilllinersystems.pull-outtestsfortheinterfacesofgeomembrane-sand,geomembrane-clay,geotextile-sandandgeotextile-clay,directsheartestsfortheinterfacesofgeotextile-sandandgeomembrane-clay,andsimplesheartestsforthecompositelinerinterfacesofgeonet-geomembrane-clayarepresented.thetestresultsshowthattheinterfacebehaviorsofgeosyntheticsandsoilmainlydependonthesurfacecharacteristicsofgeosynthetics.theinitialslopeofstress-displacementcurvefromthedirecttestsandsimplesheartestsissteeperthanthatfromthepull-outtests.theresultsfromthesimplesheartestsshowthatthecriticalinterfacewiththelargestdisplacementinthecompositelinerisnotfixedatasingleinterface.itcanshiftfromonetoanotherwithchangingnormalstress.thestrengthenvelopisthesteepestforthepull-outtests,middleforthesimplesheartests,andthelowestforthedirectsheartests.theconditionofcompositelinerinlandfillscanbereasonablysimulatedbythesimplesheartests.thesimplesheartestsaresuggestedtoinvestigatetheinterfacestrengthoflinersystemsinlandfills.
