HydrologicModelingoftheHeiheWatershedbyDLBRMinNorthwestChina, PP. 410-421 Keywords: Distributed,Large,Basin,Runoff,Model,(DLBRM),Heihe,Watershed,in,Northwestern,China,Water,Shortage,Climate Abstract: ABSTRACTWatershortageisachronicprobleminaridNorthwestChina.Theincreasingpopulationgrowthandexpandingurbanizationaswellaspotentialclimatechangeimpactsarelikelytoworsenthesituation,threateningdomestic,irrigation,andindustrialsuppliesandeventhesurvivaloftheecosystemsinNorthwestChina.ThispaperdescribesthepreliminaryworkofadaptingtheDistributedLargeBasinRunoffModeltotheHeiheWatershed(thesecondlargestinlandriverinaridNorthwesternChina,withadrainageareaof128,000km2)forunderstandingdistributionofglacial/snowmelt,groundwater,surfacerunoff,andevapotranspiration,andforassessinghydrologicalimpactsofclimatechangeandglacialrecessiononwatersupplyinthemiddleandlowerreachesofthewatershed.PreliminarysimulationresultsshowthatQilianMountainintheupperreachareaproducesmostrunoffintheHeihewatershed.Thesimulateddailyriverflowsofthe1990-2000indicatethattheHeiheRiverdischargesabout1billionm3ofwaterfromthemiddlereach(atZhengyixiastation)tolowerreach,withsurfacerunoffandinterflowcontributing51and49percentrespectively.Thesandylowersoilzoneinthemiddlereachhasthehighestevapotranspirationrateandalsocontributesnearlyhalfoftheriverflow.WorkunderwayfocusesontheDLBRMmodelimprovementandincorporationoftheclimatechangeandmanagementscenariostothehydrologicalsimulationsinthewatershed.
