Foreign language anxiety among Algerian EFL students: The case of first year students of English at the university of Abderahmane Mira-Béjaia; LMD (Licence/Master/Doctorat) system group, PP. 55-64 Keywords: foreign language anxiety, EFL, LMD system, coping strategies Abstract: The paper’s main concern is anxiety in Foreign Lang uage Learning (FLL) taking the case of first year students of English at the University of Abderrahma ne Mira Béjaia ; LMD system group. As one might expect, the study aims at mapping out the factors g enerating Foreign Language Anxiety (FLA) in Algerian students learning English as a Foreign Lan guage (EFL). Our problem is based on the way students see and live anxiety in their foreign lang uage classroom and how they manage to handle it. After the presentation of a detailed review of the literature, a field study is needed to reach an ans wer about our stated questioning, first, and to authent icate our three hypotheses. After obtaining the nee ded data from the students’ responses on the questionna ires, we analyzed and interpreted the collected data following arithmetic methods to have more accurate results. The conclusion we have ended with, then, is that our three hypotheses about the feeling of a nxiety in our participants were authenticated and o ther details were revealed as well. We end by claiming t hat the present investigation could add a valuable stone to the field of not only anxiety, but it goes further because other psychological and pedagogica l problems were apparent alongside with it.
