Relationship Between Attitude Properties and Psychological Commitment

The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between attitude properties and psychological commitment to a sports team. In addition, this study attempted to examine whether there were gender differences in the relationship between attitude properties and psychological commitment to the team. A total of 453 questionnaires were distributed and returned from students at a large public university. Out of 453, twenty-nine were excluded because they were not applicable. 424 questionnaires were utilized for the data analysis. Data were analyzed with correlation analysis, Cron-bach’s α coefficient, confirmatory factor analysis, and three structural models (total data, male data, and female data). Based on the results of the total data, direct experience, importance, certainty, and extremity directly contributed to psychological commitment to the team. The results also indicated that direct experience, importance, and extremity were significantly related to psychological commitment to the team for males, while for females, only importance was a significant predictor of psychological commitment to the team.
