Cellular Therapy for Cardiovascular Disease Part 2 – Delivery of Cells and Clinical Experience

Coronary artery disease (CAD) and congestive heart failure (CHF) are leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Western communities and represent a growing economic burden to most health systems. Cell-based therapy represents a novel treatment strategy to treat CAD and CHF. The first part of this two-part review will address the biological properties and functional potential of different cell types that have been trialled in preclinical cardiovascular research. Part two will focus on the clinical application of these cells and will discuss the lessons learnt from clinical trial experience so far.
